Widgets for the island,
made by anyone.

Add one in a click, or make your own right here, no code needed: pick what it shows, see it as you go, and send it in. Once it's approved, it's in the gallery for everyone.

Make a widget

What you see on the right is what Oriel draws, same size and look. Start from an example or from scratch.

Any address that returns JSON, starting with https://. Use what it returns in your words with {{path.to.value}}.

  1. Try it. Download the file and double-click it. Oriel shows you what it is before adding it.
  2. Send it in. It goes to Tiago for review, not straight to the gallery. Email is private and needs no account. GitHub needs a free account, and the post is public there while it's reviewed. Copy the file if your email doesn't open.
  3. Approved? It's checked by hand: what it shows, the site it reads from, and that it works. Only then does it appear in the gallery, credited to you. Nothing is published before that.

How it works

Parts

  • title small and bold, value big, caption small, text up to three lines
  • symbol any SF Symbol name, like gift.fill (shown as an emoji here)
  • gauge a bar and ring a circle: a value out of max (100 if left out)
  • list up to four rows: rows is where the list is, row each row's words
  • spacer pushes what's below it to the bottom

Filling in words

  • {{price.usd}} or {{items.0.name}} from the data address
  • {{price|2}} two decimals, {{views|k}} 1.2K, {{ratio|%}} a percent
  • {{now:HH:mm}} the time, {{until:2026-12-25}} days until a date

Safe by design

A widget is a small file that says what to show. No code runs, it can't read anything on your Mac, and it can only ask one https address for data, which Oriel shows you before you add it. Every widget in the gallery is checked by hand before it's added, and Oriel only lets the gallery add widgets with one click: anything else is a file you open yourself, marked as not reviewed.
